The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar: Two ... Two concepts in One!

A few friends get together and decide to go out.  But then . . .
I want sushi.
I want a burger.
Well, I want a 10 ounce exotic martini!

Has this ever happened to you?  Maybe not exactly but you get the idea.  Take popular concepts that are worlds apart and bring them together with a weird flair and you have The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar.  There’s a reason no one thought of this idea before – it’s a strange combination.  Strange, weird or worlds apart it doesn’t matter because it works.  The clever menu ideas and the crossing of the two concepts help to make it work, but when it’s all said and done Cowfish delivers.  A clean restaurant, attentive service, quality menu items with striking presentations and colorful décor give you a reason to want to return and experience Cowfish again.

It’s not often you see a restaurant on Urbanspoon rated 89% by nearly 1,300 people.  These folks found a winning combination that is truly unique.  Be prepared because the place will be packed.  I sat at the bar on my first visit because that’s all that was available.  I sat at the bar on my second visit because I liked the bar experience with the 600 gallon aquarium and cowfish swimming around.  The bar is more like a modern diner bar than a high top “Give me a tall cold one” bar yet still inviting.

The menu is large and diverse and really does provide an option for everyone.  Even if you want to combine the two with an order of Parmesan Truffle Fries and a Sushi Roll like I did.  Or have a little burger and a little sushi by ordering a bento box; also like I did on round two.  I don’t want to say that the menu is endless, it’s just that there are so many options and possibilities it just seems like it is.

Parmesan Truffle Fries ($8) is a large portion of crispy house fries loaded with truffle and Parmesan cheeses, topped with chives and melted to a cheesy perfection.  It is so hard for me to pass on anything truffle related that I had to order this.  I didn’t come close to finishing it though.  I still loved it.

The King’s Roll ($18) – fresh tuna, kani, jalapeno, cream cheese and scallion roll coated with panko and flash fried.  Each piece is topped with seasonal crab salad and masago, sriracha and cream sauce.  It is served with ponzu dipping sauce.  After the fries I’m sure you’re wondering why I needed a roll of this size – don’t ask, but it was pretty darn good.

The Cowfish Bento Box ($12) is a combo meal featuring both burger and sushi including a mini burger with American cheese, pickles and chopped red onion, sweet potato fries, Thai cucumbers, edamame and choice of a four piece sushi roll (California, Spicy Tuna, Vegetarian or Philly Roll).  This was good but I’m looking forward to ordering some goodies off the menu again next time I’m there.

My recommendation is for you to get your butt to South Park in Charlotte and try Cowfish for yourself.  I won’t be upset if you don’t, because that just means you won’t have my seat when I arrive.
