Killington's in Huntersville Serving Up the Gastro Pub Experience

Killington’s Restaurant & Pub, located in Huntersville, North Carolina; considers itself a gastro pub that serves American fusion.  Killington’s is owned by Greg and Shannon Roderick who are originally from Michigan and created the menu with Chef Brian Bruce.  Their goal was to create “a place where people go to eat high quality food in a casual atmosphere”.  The menu is very diverse offering options for many taste and dietary profiles.  Just glance at the menu and you’ll see what I mean.

The restaurant itself is divided in two with the bar to the right of the host stand and the dining room to the left.  I went for dinner and it is kept pretty dark overall but not so much that you can’t see what you’re eating.  There are also lots of TVs throughout the dining room and bar for patrons to keep up with whatever game may be on at the time.

I saw the menu online and thought I knew what I wanted even before I stepped through the front door.  I was wrong.  After a discussion with the server I went a different route and ordered way more than I could eat, but I couldn’t narrow it down any further.  The server informed me that the appetizers I ordered take a while so I just told her to bring everything at the same time.

Stuffed Banana Peppers ($8.50) – four large banana peppers stuffed with blue cheese, garlic seasoned bread crumb mix with basil with provolone melted over the top with a balsamic glaze drizzled over them.  These were good but know when you order that the stuffing is mostly breading and not as flavorful as I had anticipated.  It did taste good and I liked the basil in the mix.

Buffalo Chicken Wings (8 for $8.95) with choice of house-made sauces (mild, hot, hot garlic, sweet chili, gold rush, char-bbq, chipotle honey or habanero) served with carrots, celery and also a choice of house-made ranch or blue cheese dip.  I chose the gold rush sauce which is a blend of Cattlemen’s BBQ and Frank’s Hot Sauce along with the blue cheese dip that I mistook for Caesar dressing at first because of the amount of garlic in it.  Good wings with a fascinating blue cheese dip that surprise me.  I love garlic so I did like it; however, if you aren’t a garlic fan you may want to order the ranch dip instead.

Pub Fish Fry (small plate - $9.75, large plate $13.50) – red oak battered haddock topped with cucumber salad and served with gold & bold slaw, hand cut fries and house-made tartar sauce.  The fish looked great and tasted just as good as it looked.  The tartar is a dill tartar (another surprise flavor profile for me) but it is good and paired nicely with the meal.  The hand cut fries were amazing and greasy and amazing.  I also like the pickled cucumber slaw that topped the fish and thought it was a nice touch.  The gold & bold slaw was good but wasn’t really my thing.  By the way, I ordered the small plate which came with one large fish filet that could fill most people up especially if you eat up all the fries as well.

I recommend trying Killington’s out if you’re in the Huntersville area.  You won’t go away hungry.
