The Blackbird restaurant on the ground floor of the Aloft Hotel in downtown Asheville is celebrating its first anniversary at its new location. The restaurant was formerly in Black Mountain and made the move into Asheville with great results. The new location features lots of open space and windows to be able to view the street action in town. The décor incorporates many specials features that give the dining room a relaxed appeal.
The Blackbird offers a ‘modern Southern’ approach to its cuisine delivering food from local farmers and fresh catches from the Carolina coast. I even scored some fresh shrimp from Chef Bobby one day when the fish monger arrived! Don’t forget the local beer and incredible pricing on their wines.
Chef Bobby Buggia, formerly of Peninsula Grill in Charleston among other notables, has a talent with food. I’m glad that he has a passion for Southern and local food products because I think I would still love his dishes even if he bought everything out of a big box store. Well, maybe. Chef Bobby is passionate about his food and his cooking. You merely have to see his creations to know that he is serious about what he’s doing.
Likewise, Pastry Chef Roz Taubman, his business partner is determined to conceive not only unforgettable desserts but stunning as well. Chef Roz also comes with a long list of accomplishments including praises in Food and Wine, Gourmet and Bon Appetite magazines.
With a dynamo team like this it has to be good. Neither rest on what they’ve done before but share their enthusiasm with staff and guests creating unique yet delectable dishes.
