Craving USDA Prime Beef? I do and I choose Ruth's Chris Steak House!

What do you do when you’re looking to splurge on dinner but are craving USDA Prime beef!?  I’ll tell you where I’ve been going but it’s not my usual independent restaurant – I go to Ruth’s Chris Steak House.  No, this isn’t a commercial.  I’ve had several great meals there during the last year or so and have been impressed every time.  As a matter of fact – I’ve had to ask them for some photos because I didn’t anticipate writing a post about them (all photos in this post are from Ruth’s Chris and used by permission).  This has taken me a bit by surprise as well.

So there have been a couple social dinners and several business dinners that have brought me to the conclusion that I truly enjoy the experience of a great Prime steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris.  I like the appetizer and salad selections as well but admit that I seldom make it to dessert.  The sides are done well also; however, I usually stay with asparagus spears and hollandaise as my standby order.

Before I get too far into telling you about the meal I want to remind you to look over the wine list.  They do a nice job of offering a selection of wine to pair with your meal.  Of course, you’ll see some of your favorite Napa Cabernets as well as a few other cult classics.  They also offer some of my favorite wines from Burgundy.  I’m a big fan of drinking Pinot Noir with my steak instead of a big cabernet.  I believe you have a nice balance between food and wine with a fuller bodied Pinot Noir from Pommard or Vosne Romanée.

I’ll start from the beginning to give you an idea of my preferences on their menu.  For an appetizer I order the Veal Osso Buco Ravioli ($13.) with saffron-infused pasta filled with veal osso buco and fresh mozzarella, served with sautéed baby spinach and a white wine demi-glace.  If the ravioli isn’t good enough already the white wine demi-glace will send you over the edge.

The salad can go several ways for me but the Steak House Salad ($8.) is one of my favorites.  It offers Iceberg, Romaine and baby lettuces with cherry tomatoes, garlic croutons and red onions topped with choice of dressing.  I like to keep a salad in the mix when dining on steak just to help me keep my food in balance.  It doesn’t hurt when they taste good too!

For my entrée there are two schools of thought that I use.  The first is to order my favorite and relish the flavor so I choose the Cowboy Ribeye ($56.) topped with a Blue cheese crust.  I know it really doesn’t need the Blue cheese but I sure do enjoy it.  The ribeye is my favorite cut with flavors that explode in your mouth – but a bone-in USDA Prime Cowboy Ribeye is something that you will remember for a long, long time!  My second choice, which is reserved for controlling my urges and eating a little lighter is the Petite Filet ($35.).  Keep in mind that the steaks arrive table side sizzling in butter on a 500° plate.  We could probably do without the extra butter but at this point, go with the flow and see how much you truly like the experience.  Or course, either way I have to order a side of Fresh Asparagus with Hollandaise ($11.).  My meal just isn’t complete without it.

If you have room (and if I do it’s only for a bite so I’ll share) you will struggle with which dessert to order but you know you can’t go wrong with chocolate - so try the Chocolate Sin Cake ($8.).  A slice of dark velvety chocolate that is perfect with a cup of coffee to end the evening.

So whether it’s business or pleasure, I recommend the USDA Prime experience at Ruth’s Chris.
