Lunch at Thai Tara was perfect on a cold day

Thai Tara in the historic Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville, NC turned out to be a perfect lunch spot for a delicious meal while meeting a friend.  It’s always a challenge to pick just one dining option when going out to eat in Asheville.  There are so many incredible options but we narrowed it down and decided to try a place neither of us had dined at previously.

The owners, Chef Tony Pornchinda and his wife Kalaya, offer an affordable and authentic option for Thai food.  The food is wonderful and the service never lacked once, even though we lingered after finishing our meal.  I love good genuine service (it is so often lacking these days) – thank you Kalaya for ensuring your service standards remain high.  Chef Tony, drawing on his international experience, obviously knows what he is doing in the kitchen.  The food doesn’t take long to arrive presenting flavors that are fresh and inviting.

At lunch most dishes are priced under broad categories listed at the top which are Vegetable & Tofu, Chicken, Beef or Pork ($8.00); Shrimp ($9.00); and Seafood Combo ($10.00).  Each dish also includes soup and a Veggie Spring Roll.  The soup arrives first with the Spring Roll added to your entrée.

My friend ordered the Pad See Ewe with Chicken.  The wide rice noodles stir fried with egg and broccoli were apparently a perfect lunch.  I witnessed a clean plate and a big smile, haha!

I chose the Mussaman Curry with thick mild peanut curry simmered in coconut milk with potatoes, onions, carrots and topped with peanuts.  I love a good coconut curry and Chef Tony definitely delivered for me.  A rich mildly spiced curry was exactly what I needed for a chilly day.

Reasonable prices, good service and good food – I do recommend that you try Thai Tara on your next visit to the Grove Arcade.
